Miyake was born in Hiroshima, Japan, and studied graphic design at the Tama Art University in Tokyo, graduating in 1964. He then chose to turn his hand to fashion, where his graphic design training inspired the innovative cut and scupltural styling that have become trademarks of his unique collections. A believer in the science of design, his experimentation regarding pleating in the late 80s revolutionised the industry. It was Miyake’s stylised approach that caused Rita to realise his enormous appeal all those years ago, and Pollyanna were proud to be one of the first UK stockists of Miyake’s Collection.
