Born and raised in California, Rick Owens studied art at Parsons in LA before taking a course in pattern-making. After toiling as an indie designer – and rock star favorite — in LA for a number of years, Owens won the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for Emerging Talent in 2002, and moved to Paris in 2003. There he oversees his own line, which is manufactured in Italy. In addition, he is Artistic Director of Revillon, the luxury furrier. Owens’ line remains true to his aesthetic: minimalist palettes and dramatic structure. Often labeled as Goth by the press, Owens considers himself more of a “drama queen,” though not in an obvious way.
